Local law enforcement is still on the lookout for one suspected serial burglar, despite arresting two others in recent days.
The Fairfax County Police Department is seeking help from the community to identify a man believed to have perpetrated two burglaries and two larcenies in nine days.
Police first began investigating a commercial burglary reported at 8:48 a.m. on Jan. 1 in the 6300 block of Leesburg Pike in Seven Corners.
“A witness reported seeing a man break into the business and leave with a cash drawer,” the FCPD said in a press release published yesterday (Thursday). “The suspect then fled the area in a red Toyota Corolla, with three missing hubcaps, prior to police arrival.”
Another burglary was reported the following day (Jan. 2) in 3500 block of Carlin Springs Road in Bailey’s Crossroads. Police believe the same man then committed two different larcenies in Tysons on Jan. 9: one in the 8200 block of Watson Street and the other in the Tysons West shopping center (1500 Cornerside Blvd).
According to the FCPD, detectives determined that the incidents are connected by the same suspect via security footage that showed a recurring red Toyota Corolla with three missing hubcaps.
Two arrests made in other cases
The FCPD has also taken two suspects into custody in recent days due to their suspected involvement in two other strings of burglaries.
A 49-year-old man from Springfield was arrested by the Metropolitan Police Department on Jan. 21 and charged in connection with a string of seven different larcenies from local gyms.
“In these cases, the victims had their gym lockers forced open and personal property stolen,” the FCPD said in a Jan. 29 press release. “Following the thefts, the victims’ credit cards were used fraudulently at nearby locations.”
Four larcenies were reported at gyms in the 7700 block of Richmond Highway in Hybla Valley and in the 5900 block of Richmond Highway in Huntington on Dec. 1, according to police.
The man was also linked to three larcenies in Springfield, including two on Dec. 16 in the 8400 block of Old Keene Mill Road — likely the Planet Fitness at Old Keene Mill Shopping Center.
The Springfield man faces charges of credit card theft, ID fraud, petit larceny and misdemeanor destruction of property. He’s currently awaiting extradition from D.C.’s jail, Fairfax County police said.
Also arrested on suspicion of burglary is a 24-year-old Woodlawn man who allegedly broke into two businesses in the 8500 block of Richmond Highway in Woodlawn overnight between Jan. 8 and Jan. 9, stealing merchandise and cash.
After reviewing surveillance footage, detectives believe the man was also behind a burglary that occurred in the same block on Dec. 30, the FCPD said yesterday in a press release.
Arrested on Jan. 25, per court records, the Woodlawn man has been charged with three counts of burglary. Facing a preliminary hearing on April 22, he remains in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center with no bond.
