With a talented lineup, it appeared less a matter of “if” the McLean Highlanders would win the Liberty District girls gymnastics championship.
It was more likely a question of “by how much?”
McLean won comfortably, with a 139.825 point total for its second straight title. The host and second place Washington-Liberty Generals trailed in the high-school meet with 131.7 and the Marshall Statesmen were third with 127.725.
McLean was led by Skylar Thomas. She was third in the all-round with a 35.075 total. Thomas placed second on the uneven bars (8.925) and tied for seventh on the balance beam (8.65).
Fifth in the all-around for McLean was Olivia Nguyen with a 34.3 score. Nguyen was second on the vault at 9.05 and fourth on the beam at 9.2. Addie Gevinson was seventh in the all-around for the Highlanders, with a 33.775 total, and Delilah Tanner was 11th (32.725).
Gevinson was fourth on the floor exercise (8.8), seventh on the uneven bars (8.375) and ninth on the vault (8.525). Tanner tied for fourth on the vault (8.8) and was 10th on the floor (8.575).
Also for McLean, Isabelle Padgett won the bars with a 9.125 score, Evie Klett tied for fourth on the bars (8.65) and was fifth on the beam (9.0), and Brooke Hawken scored 8.275 on the beam and 8.375 on the floor.
McLean had the best score of all teams in the four events. The Highlanders scored 34.8 on the vault, 35.075 on the bars, 35.55 on the beam and 34.4 on the floor.
Marshall was led by Molly Peksens with a fourth in the all-around (34.875). She placed second on the beam (9.425) and floor (9.2) and sixth on the vault (8.75).
Also for Marshall, Nicole Ghanem scored a 32.35 in the all-round and Ava Krasner 32.05.
