A restaurant that showcases different varieties of ramen is heading to the Herndon area.
Kyuramen has begun construction at Arrowbrook Centre and anticipates opening in August of this year, a spokesperson told FFXnow.
The restaurant at 2340 Silver Arrow Way will be 4,920 square feet in size with an outdoor seating area, according to a building permit that Fairfax County has been reviewing since December. It’ll be the chain’s second location in Northern Virginia, following its debut in Falls Church (918 W Broad Street) last October.
Inspired by his own love of ramen, honed over repeated trips to Japan, Kyuramen founder Gary Lin opened his own shop in New York City in 2014 with the goal of making the noodle soup “a more affordable daily cuisine” in the U.S., according to the company’s website and previous media reports.
“We intend to be the Starbucks of Ramen in the U.S.,” Lin told Gotham magazine in 2022.
Now boasting more than 126 locations worldwide, Kyuramen says it wants to highlight the regional differences in ramen that can be found across Japan.
Its menu includes 11 noodle soups, from a Tokyo shoyu flavored with white and black garlic to Japanese curry ramen and a yinyang bowl that has shrimp tempura and scallop in addition to the standard chashu pork. Rice dishes and burgers are also available, along with various appetizers and desserts.
Kyuramen announced in January that it was rolling out a new interior design concept at recent openings in Birmingham, Alabama, Pittsburgh and Portland, Oregon. The Herndon location will also feature the revamped look, a spokesperson confirmed, including:
- A ramen cart-inspired reception area, bringing nostalgia of the origin of ramen noodles
- Private dining rooms for intimate gatherings
- Upgraded signature honeycomb booths, providing both fun and comfort
- A Japanese wish tree centerpiece adorned with traditional votive plaques, inviting diners to engage in a meaningful cultural tradition
- Thoughtfully designed lighting and decor blending traditional Japanese elements with sleek, contemporary aesthetics, perfect for casual meals, trendy dates, or family gatherings
“The 2.0 interior design makes dining at Kyuramen more than a meal — it’s an experience,” Kyuramen said in a press release.
Kyuramen will be joined at Arrowbrook Centre by True North Power Yoga, which is operating a temporary studio at the Village Center at Dulles until its permanent location opens this summer.
Existing retail tenants at the mixed-use development include Paris Baguette, the Chinese restaurant Peter Chang and the South Asian grocery store Hello 2 India.
