A home in Vienna was devastated early this morning (Thursday) by a sizable fire that sent one person to the hospital.

More than two dozen units with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department (FCFRD) responded to the 300 block of Blair Street NW at 1:15 a.m. after 911 received multiple calls for a house fire.

“We’ve got three calls now reporting that the back of the house is on fire,” a dispatcher told responders, per the scanner. “The homeowner did call themselves. They said everyone is out except for a dog.”

Responding units saw “heavy fire” upon arriving at the three-story, single-family home. According to scanner traffic, the flames eventually extended up to the attic and through a hole in the roof.

Firefighters with the City of Fairfax Fire Department were enlisted to help extinguish the blaze.

“Crews immediately began working to extinguish the fire and ensure all occupants were out,” the FCFRD said in a social media post shortly after 9:30 a.m. “One dog was removed from the home. The fire is under control.”

The department didn’t comment on the condition of the dog, but scanner traffic indicates that medics were needed to assist after it was taken out of the house. In addition, one person was transported to a hospital. No firefighter injuries were reported.

Fire investigators are now at the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
