A Dumfries man will serve nearly 20 years in federal prison, primarily for his involvement in four different armed robberies in Fairfax County.
Dwayne Selman-Neville, 38, was sentenced yesterday (Thursday) to 19 years and two months of incarceration after pleading guilty on Oct. 11 to charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and possession with the intent to distribute controlled substances.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, in March 2024, Selman-Neville and 42-year-old Al Gibran Taylor of Reston attempted to rob four businesses across three Fairfax County neighborhoods: Herndon, Chantilly and Annandale.
The pair first struck on March 8, when Taylor ordered employees at Starbucks in Herndon’s Village Center at Dulles shopping center to open the cafe’s safe at gunpoint. Taylor then fled to a nearby vehicle where Selman-Neville was waiting, federal prosecutors said.
The two men struck again days later, targeting a check cashing store in Chantilly on March 11, 2024 while posing as Amazon delivery drivers. Selman-Neville obtained a tray of cash from the business’ safe before fleeing with Taylor, according to court documents.
On March 14, however, the pair failed to obtain any money in attempted robberies at two locations.
The pair first approached a drive-through window at a Herndon bank, presenting the teller with a note demanding money. After the teller left the window, Selman-Neville and Taylor fled before they could obtain any money, federal prosecutors said.
The pair then fled the scene after an attempted robbery at a check cashing store in Annandale, when the store’s cashier couldn’t understand the men’s demands due to a language barrier.
Selman-Neville alone robbed a store in Woodbridge on March 27 — his last robbery, according to court records.
Law enforcement took Selman-Neville into custody on April 15. A search of his residence found 280 counterfeit oxycodone pills containing fentanyl and other drug paraphernalia, federal prosecutors said.
Taylor was arrested for his alleged role on March 26. He pled guilty to using a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence last summer, and was ultimately sentenced to 25 years in prison.
