A missing Fairfax County teen was spotted earlier this week in Fredericksburg, local officials announced this morning (Friday).
Fasihullah Safar, 16, was seen “trespassing” on the grounds of James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg on Wednesday (March 19), the city’s schools and police said.
According to the Fredericksburg Police Department, the school’s resource officer approached Safar, who then fled. A subsequent search of the area was unsuccessful. The department says Safar is now wanted for trespassing on school property.
Fredericksburg City Public Schools closed today “in an abundance of caution.”
“We believe there are potential safety and security concerns with this individual’s mental state,” the school district and police department said in a shared statement.
According to a missing person notice, Safar was last seen in Fairfax County on Monday (March 17). In a 12:17 p.m. post on social media, the Fairfax County Police Department confirmed that it’s continuing to search for Safar, who is described as a “runaway from the Alexandria part of FFX County.”
“We continue our efforts to locate him,” the FCPD said.

According to Inside NoVA, the sheriff’s offices in nearby Stafford and Spotsylvania released statements this morning stating that their local schools hadn’t received any threats, but patrols would be increased “out of caution.”
Located on I-95 roughly in between D.C. and Richmond, Fredericksburg has five public schools that collectively serve more than 3,500 students, per its 2023-2024 annual report.
