A man who was hit by a car driver while riding a scooter in Mount Vernon last night (Tuesday) remains hospitalized in critical condition, police say.
Officers and medics responded to Mount Vernon Highway at Drew Court around 7:54 p.m. yesterday for a crash that the dispatcher initially said involved a pedestrian and a driver who fled the scene, according to scanner traffic.
Based on initial interviews of witnesses, police identified the fleeing vehicle as a black sedan. At around 8:10 p.m., an officer reported that a scooter used by the crash victim had been found, per the scanner.
The scooter user, an adult man, was transported by helicopter to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Mount Vernon Highway was closed to traffic while detectives investigated between Drews Court and Sunny View Drive.
“The man is still in life-threatening condition,” the Fairfax County Police Department told FFXnow earlier this afternoon (Wednesday). “Detectives from our Crash Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate.”
