George Mason may have helped kick the British out of America, but the British are taking over his Gunston Hall estate in Lorton next Sunday with a car show.
The Britain on the Green car and motorcycle show will return on Sunday, April 27, for its 27th year. The event is held on the lawn of Gunston Hall (10709 Gunston Road).
“All marques of British cars and motorcycles regardless of age or condition are welcome to enter the show,” the event listing said. “The show will feature twenty-five (or more) classes of British cars and motorcycles and honors will be awarded by Participant’s Choice.”
John Buescher, coordinator of Britain on the Green, said there are currently 160 cars registered but the festival is expecting around 200 to 2015 cars.
“We have 33 classes that we’ve identified, the most in there are Triumphs, MGs, Jaguars and Lotus,” Buescher said. “As for unique cars, we have two Rolls Royces built in the late 1930s.”
Buescher said the Nation’s Capital Jaguars’ Owners Club will also be hosting a Concours d’Elegance at the same time, which pairs well with the show.
Special awards at Britain on the Green will be presented for best resto-mod, best survivor, best display and best of show.
