BREAKING: Two FCPD officers shot during Fair Oaks traffic stop, gunman killed

Two Fairfax County police officers are wounded and a local man is dead after shots were fired during a traffic stop in the Fair Oaks neighborhood Wednesday.

Both officers sustained non-life threatening injuries in the incident, which occurred around 2:45 p.m. in the 4000 block of Majestic Lane — just outside Greenbriar Town Center.

The 36-year-old suspect, who was pulled over for speeding, was “immediately hostile” and “combative” in his initial interaction with law enforcement, police chief Kevin Davis said.

After telling officers that he was armed with a weapon, the alleged shooter removed his weapon from its holster and opened fire at two officers standing at his driver’s side door.

A third officer at the scene returned fire, striking the driver. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Both officers sustained injuries to their arms and are currently being treated at a local hospital, police said.
