Update — The Fairfax County Police Department announced on June 25 that a 34-year-old man from Maryland has been arrested in connection with the vehicle break-ins reported around Tysons.

“He is being held at Prince George’s County Jail awaiting extradition back to Fairfax County where he will be charged with three counts of Felony Credit Card Theft, three counts of Credit Card Fraud, and three counts of Destruction of Property,” the FCPD said.

Earlier: The same man may be behind more than a dozen vehicle break-ins that occurred in Tysons over four months, police say.

Officers first responded to the Westbranch Drive and Westpark Drive intersection for a report of property destruction at 5:40 a.m. on Jan. 5. Upon arriving, they learned that multiple vehicles had been hit, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

“While investigating the initial report, officers discovered additional vehicles in the area had been broken into. Some of the vehicles had items stolen,” the FCPD said today (Thursday) in a news release. “Additional break-ins occurred on nearby streets in the area of Westbranch Drive and Westpark Drive.”

A total of eight vehicles were broken into that day. Since January, detectives have investigated 12 more vehicle break-ins and larcenies in Tysons that they believe were committed by the same person:

The FCPD says credit cards stolen from the vehicles were used at a convenience store in the 7500 block of Leesburg Pike in Idylwood on Feb. 9 and April 6. Though police didn’t identify the store, that block includes a 7-Eleven behind the Tysons Station shopping center.

Police are looking for the public’s assistance in identifying a possible suspect, releasing images from surveillance camera footage that they say show the man during one of the Jan. 5 break-ins and the two convenience store visits.
