A longtime teacher in Chantilly faces decades in prison after being charged with numerous child sex crimes.
Nicolas Martin Zimmerman, who formerly taught at St. Veronica Catholic School in Chantilly, was arrested last month by law enforcement in Loudoun County, the sheriff’s office announced today (Wednesday).
The 35-year-old Zimmerman has been charged with one count of taking indecent liberties with a minor, an offense that includes exposing genitalia, propositioning sexual acts or other similar actions, according to statute.
Zimmerman also faces nine counts of possession of child pornography and two counts of electronic solicitation, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) said. All three of the offenses he has been charged with are felonies.
Zimmerman was previously employed as a physical education teacher at St. Veronica’s, which caters to students from kindergarten through 8th grade. He resigned from that position in February, after nearly 10 years of service, according to the Catholic Diocese of Arlington.
“The same day as his resignation, St. Veronica received an allegation against Mr. Zimmerman and that allegation was immediately reported to Child Protective Services and law enforcement,” the diocese said in a statement, dated May 1.
It is currently unclear how many alleged victims there are in the investigation, and it is publicly unknown if any alleged victims were students at the school.
“We are not aware of any misconduct that took place on school or parish property,” the diocese said.
The LCSO says its Special Victims Unit believes there may be more victims and is now asking anyone with information to contact its detectives at 703-777-1021 or allison.rawlings@loudoun.gov. The office also has an anonymous tip line at 703-777-1919.
