The Fairfax County Courthouse will be closed again tomorrow (Friday) due to ongoing technical issues.
All courts fully suspended operations today (Thursday) to address “ongoing technical difficulties” that the county hoped would be quickly resolved. When announcing this afternoon that the closure will be extended a day, the county elaborated that the issue is related to the courthouse’s “electronic access control system.”
Each of the building’s three courts — Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court — will be affected, with bond motions, arraignments and juvenile detention hearings being held virtually tomorrow.
Additionally, protective order hearings scheduled for Friday in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court will be held in the Historic Fairfax Courthouse, which is also on the grounds of the judicial campus at 4000 Chain Bridge Road.
With the courthouse closed, payments, record and document requests, and other walk-in services will be unavailable tomorrow.
Earlier today, a spokesperson for the circuit court clerk’s office told FFXnow that “significant resources are being dedicated” to getting the courts back up and running at full capacity. The courts hoped to be operational again by the end of the day, but that evidently didn’t happen.
When contacted after the announcement of Friday’s closure, the spokesperson said they had no additional information to share beyond the county’s publicly released status update.
