Buzzy coffee shop Shotted closes temporarily at Tysons Corner Center

A wildly popular local coffee shop is moving once again to a larger location within Tysons Corner Center.

The second-floor storefront for Shotted closed earlier this month ahead of the move, which was partly necessitated by ongoing updates to the sprawling mall’s layout.

“When we opened our Tysons Corner Center location last year, we knew from the start that it would be a short term arrangement as the mall planned to rezone the retail spaces for fashion brands,” founder and CEO Bandar Alhenaki told FFXnow.

But the brand won’t be away for long: Shotted plans to open a temporary kiosk in the mall sometime in June. A notice shown on the cafe’s menu screens in early May, before its closure, advised customers to “find us in front of Gap” on the second floor.

“[The kiosk] will allow us to continue serving our customers while we work on developing a larger, dedicated café space in the mall,” Alhenaki said.

The exact location of Shotted’s permanent space is still being decided, according to a spokesperson for Tysons Corner Center, who said the mall isn’t ready to announce a new location yet.

“Things are being finalized,” she said.

Tysons Corner Center currently features three vacant spaces in “primary food areas,” with each located on the first floor, according to the mall’s map. Two appear to be sized to accommodate a full-service, dine-in restaurant, while the other — located next to Chipotle — has a much smaller footprint.

Inspired by Saudi Arabia’s cafe culture, Shotted launched in 2020 with a first-floor kiosk in Tysons Corner Center’s east wing, where quickly found an audience, particularly in Northern Virginia’s Muslim community.

In addition to relocating its Tysons Corner Center operations to the now-closed storefront next to Sephora in May 2024, the business has expanded with two other locations — one in nearby Tysons Galleria, and one in Loudoun County’s Dulles Town Center.

The Tysons Galleria location remains open daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays, with a midnight closing time on weekends.
