A Lorton man was shot last night (Monday) by a teen identified by police as his daughter’s boyfriend.
According to the Fairfax County Police Department, officers responded to the 9800 block of East Hill Drive at 9:56 p.m. for reports of a shooting in the Lorton Station neighborhood.
Upon arriving, police found an adult man with a gunshot wound to his upper body. The man, whose identity hasn’t been made public, was taken to a hospital in life-threatening condition, but his status later improved to non-life-threatening.
Though the shooter was gone by the time police arrived, officers later found him leaving a nearby home and arrested him “without incident,” the FCPD said today, identifying the suspect as 18-year-old Christopher Cureton of Lorton.
“Preliminarily, detectives determined that the suspect, boyfriend of the victim’s daughter, was verbally arguing with the victim outside of his home,” the FCPD said. “The suspect then discharged a firearm, hitting the victim and fled the scene before officers arrived.”
Cureton is currently in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, facing charges of malicious wounding and using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Brandon Sloane, who’s serving as Cureton’s defense attorney, declined to comment but noted that a bond hearing is expected on Friday (June 6).
After an arraignment this morning, the Fairfax County General District Court has scheduled a preliminary hearing in the case for 2 p.m. on Aug. 19.
