A man from the Mount Vernon area is facing multiple criminal charges after allegedly attacking a woman in Woodlawn last week.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 3800 block of Roxbury Court at 12:46 a.m. last Thursday (June 5) for a report of an abduction and attempted sexual assault.

“The adult victim reported that while walking home she was approached by a suspect,” the FCPD said in a press release. “The suspect followed the victim, attacked her, and attempted to sexually assault her in a nearby wooded area. The victim fought back and the suspect fled the scene.”

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was treated for her injuries.

Though officers weren’t able to find the man after searching the area, Major Crimes Bureau detectives later identified him as Wuilver Mauricio Garcia Hernandez, 36, the FCPD says, though the police didn’t publicize any details about how he was identified.

Garcia Hernandez turned himself in for arrest on Saturday (June 7) after seeing the FCPD’s initial press release about the case, the department said.

Currently in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond, he has been charged with abduction with the intent to defile, attempted rape and strangulation.
