Fireworks and fun run planned at Lake Fairfax Park this weekend

Parking passes are now available for the annual Independence Day fireworks at Lake Fairfax Park (1400 Lake Fairfax Drive) in Reston.

This Saturday (June 28) will bring a full day of festivities to the park, capped off with an early Fourth of July fireworks show in the evening.

“The celebration begins at noon, giving guests plenty of time to explore the park and grab a spot before the fireworks light up the night sky,” the Fairfax County Park Authority said in a release. “Arrive early to enjoy a full lineup of live entertainment, food trucks and activities for all ages.”

Food trucks will be available from noon to 9 p.m., with fireworks starting shortly after 9 p.m.

Picnic areas are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Visitors are encouraged to arrive by 8 p.m. for a viewing spot and the park is set to close to new arrivals at 8:45 p.m.

Parking at the site is $20 per vehicle, if purchased in advance, or $25 per vehicle at the gate the day of the event. Bicyclists and pedestrians enter free.

Visitors looking for relief from this week’s summer heat can stop by The Water Mine Family Swimmin’ Hole, which is open for the season from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with separate admission.

Lake Fairfax Park will also host a family-friendly Summer Sprint earlier in the day.

The 5k and 1-mile fun run is scheduled to kick off at 9 a.m., with packet pickup from 7:45-8:45 a.m. Registration is $5 per runner or $10 per family.
