It looks like Ronald McDonald gets the last laugh in Reston’s fast food burger battle.
Following extensive renovations to a former Burger King at Hunters Woods Village Center, McDonald’s expects to open on the site this month, a company representative told FFXnow.
Specifically, McDonald’s is targeting mid-July for its opening at 2270 Hunters Woods Plaza. The storefront has been vacant since Burger King left in April 2023.
The forthcoming opening will bring an end to a year-long process, one which kicked off under mysterious circumstances.
Last June, a permit application seeking to renovate the property was filed with the question-raising name “Burger King can’t have his way up in here — Bye Bye Burger King.”
The application detailed a $100,000 renovation that included upgraded kitchen equipment and a new front counter. Fairfax County ultimately approved a building permit, paving the way for McDonald’s to take over the space.
As of last week, however, interior construction was not yet finished. Multiple pieces of construction equipment and materials could be seen strewn about inside the building, though a sign on black-tarp fencing surrounding the building announces that McDonald’s is “coming soon.”
The Hunters Woods restaurant will be the second McDonald’s franchise located in Reston, joining another at 1265 Roger Bacon Drive near the Wiehle Metro station.
The new McDonald’s joins a shopping center already full of numerous dining options. It will compete Ledo Pizza, Jersey Mike’s Subs and Buffalo Wing Factory, among other restaurants.
