Police are still searching for a driver who allegedly shot another man on I-495 last month in an apparent act of road rage.
Around 9:12 a.m. on June 11, the victim was driving south on I-495 in a brown 1999 Chevy Suburban SUV near Duke Street in Alexandria when they might’ve cut off the driver of a black BMW sedan, according to the Virginia State Police.
“The two vehicles continued driving until they pulled off onto the shoulder where Interstates 395, 495, and Route 644 all meet,” state police said today (Tuesday) in a press release, referring to the Old Keene Mill Road interchange in Springfield. “Once the vehicles were on the shoulder, there was a confrontation, and the victim was shot once.”
The Chevy driver drove themselves to a nearby hospital with injuries to their arm and leg, police say. Two teens were also in the vehicle but weren’t harmed.
The VSP says it’s looking for the public’s help to identify the BMW driver, who’s described as a Black man who’s roughly 5-foot-5-inches tall and was wearing blue or green work pants and a white T-shirt. After the shooting, the driver allegedly left the scene, driving east on I-495 and exiting at Van Dorn Street. A child was also spotted in the sedan.
“Anyone with information in regards to this shooting should contact Virginia State Police Division 7 Dispatch at 703-803-0028 or email questions@vsp.virginia.gov,” the Virginia State Police said.
