Chicken and gyro restaurant to offer free food for Fairfax City grand opening

A New York-based restaurant chain will officially introduce itself to Fairfax City tomorrow (Thursday).

After welcoming its first customers with a soft opening earlier this month, Blazin’ Chicken and Gyro plans to commemorate the grand opening of its second D.C.-area location with complimentary food, juices and milkshakes from 5-9 p.m.

The new restaurant is located next to Haraz Coffee House at 1011 Main Street in the Fairfax Junction shopping center at the intersection of Main Street and Route 29.

Though Blazin’ opened its first location in 2020, the concept is rooted in experience from decades earlier.

Founders Steve and Mo John spent many a day in their grandfather’s New York restaurant, “where they learned to cook halal food with the precision and passion of true artisans,” according to Blazin’s website.

“Trained in family recipes with a dedication to quality,” the website says, “they dreamed of sharing these flavors with a new generation.”

The business made its first foray into the D.C. region last year, opening a location at Tysons Station in Pimmit Hills last December.

Ten different platters — each containing a protein, rice, salad and french fries — lead Blazin’s Mediterranean-inspired menu, which also includes 15 different handheld items, like burgers, gyros and sub sandwiches.

Open late into the night, the eatery also serves a variety of appetizers: cheese fries, mozzarella sticks, onion rings and more. All of the meat is made halal.

“We make sure there’s something for everyone — whether you’re dining solo, grabbing a quick lunch, or enjoying a meal with friends and family,” Blazin’s website says.

Following Thursday’s grand opening, Blazin’ will be open daily starting at 10:30 a.m. The eatery will close at 3 a.m. Sunday-Wednesday, but will stay open an hour later (4 a.m.) Thursday through Saturday.
