A mental health care provider is charting new territory in Virginia.
Serenity Mental Health Centers will open a clinic in the Fair Oaks area next week, its first in the state. A temporary clinic will launch at 12150 Monument Drive, Suite 375, on Monday (Aug. 4), with a permanent location following later in Suite 815, also in the One Monument Place office building.
“Opening our first clinic in Virginia is a commitment to making life-changing mental health treatment accessible to more communities,” Serenity Chief Operating Officer and co-founder Tricia Pease said in a press release.
Headquartered in Lehi, Utah, Serenity got its start in 2017 as a single psychiatric clinic looking to offer alternative, personalized care for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and other conditions, according to its website. The private company now has 29 locations in Utah, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia and Nevada.
According to the press release, Serenity’s clinics are among the few that offer transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) as a treatment option for conditions other than depression. The procedure, which uses magnetic fields to stimulate nerve cells in the brain, has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to treat major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, migraines and smoking.
Serenity says its TMS treatment “has an 84% response rate and a 78% remission rate, with results lasting over three years for most patients.”
Other services include psychiatric evaluations, ketamine infusion therapy, ADHD testing and management, and medication management.
The Fair Oaks location will consist of 16 specialized treatment suites with two board-certified psychiatrists as providers: Dr. Vanessa Freeman and Dr. Lan-Anh Tran. The clinic is open on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., and same-day appointments will be available.
The opening will kick off a larger plan for expansion in the D.C. region, with Serenity planning to add eight to 10 more locations, starting next year with clinics in Arlington and Alexandria, Pease said.
“Aside from Alexandria and Arlington, there is nothing set in stone yet,” Serenity Public Relations Coordinator Megan Hugues said when asked if any more Fairfax County locations are expected.
