Tysons’ Shipgarten to host its own Renaissance Festival this month

Hear ye, hear ye! If you’re one of those frustrated by the ticket kerfuffle tripping up the Maryland Renaissance Festival, perchance Tysons could interest you in a little Renn Fest of its own.

Shipgarten is hosting its Summer Renaissance Festival next Saturday, Aug. 16, from 1-6 p.m. The festival will include presumably biergarten-sized variants of arrow shooting, axe throwing and jousting.

The renn fests are seasonal at Shipgarten, with previous festivals in May and February.

According to the event listing:

Come out to Shipgarten on Saturday, August 16th from 1-6 pm for our Summer Renaissance Festival. Enjoy sampling a wide variety of drinks, food, compete in festival events for prizes, or take pictures in our photo booth- there’s something for everyone! Shipgarten is 100% dog friendly, whether on-leash or in our off-leash dog park! We offer lots of treats such as Pup Cups and Kongs filled with peanut butter so the whole family can enjoy a treat.

The rundown of events includes a joust at 2 p.m. FFXnow reached out to see what the “jousting” entails in the Shipgarten context but received no response, so it’ll have to remain a mystery to discover at the festival.

The festival will also have a costume contest at 5 p.m., with 1st place winners receiving a $100 gift card. The event will be followed by music and a UFC fight at 8 p.m.

The event schedule is:

1:30 – 3:00 PM: Arrow Shooting 🏹

2:00 PM: Jousting

3:00 – 4:30 PM: Axe Throwing 🪓

4:30 PM: Stein Hoisting 🍺

8:00PM UFC 319 Watch Party: Du Plessis vs Chimaev

Located at 7581 Colshire Drive in the Scotts Run neighborhood, Shipgarten doesn’t have its own parking, but free parking and shuttle service are available from 1700 Old Meadow Road.

Opened in 2022, the pop-up is currently home to Tysons Biergarten and the Asian fusion eatery RollBär. It regularly hosts live music and other events.
