A Chantilly man is facing multiple criminal charges for allegedly engaging in sexual acts with a 14-year-old.

The 50-year-old man was caught by the teen’s parents in a vehicle with their child on April 20, the Fairfax County Police Department said in a press release on Friday (Aug. 8).

The parents called the police to the 14000 block of Braddock Road in Centreville and confronted the man, who fled the scene before officers arrived, according to the FCPD.

“Detectives determined that Akbar Yunusi, 50, of Chantilly, met the victim through a social media platform,” the FCPD said. “He then traveled to the victim on multiple occasions to engage in illicit acts with the minor.”

About a day after he was caught, Yunusi bought a ticket for a one-way flight to Istanbul, Turkey, police say. However, when he returned to the U.S. on Aug. 3, detectives were waiting to arrest him with help from Customs and Border Protection agents.

Now in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond, Yunusi has been charged with aggravated sexual battery, sodomy, three counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, eight counts of using a communication system to facilitate crimes against children, and three counts of producing child pornography.

After bond hearings last week, the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court is scheduled to hold a preliminary hearing in the case on Nov. 21.
