One of the world’s largest telecommunications companies has officially opened its Chantilly-based regional hub.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony for AT&T’s new building, located at 4807 Stonecroft Blvd in Westfields Center, was held last week, the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) announced.
“AT&T’s decision to consolidate operations in Chantilly is a major step forward,” Sully District Supervisor Kathy Smith said. “… Your investment speaks volumes about Fairfax County’s value as a destination for business, innovation, and community impact.”
The five-story, 111,000-square-foot building will house more than 500 of AT&T’s employees.
“Our more than 500 AT&T colleagues working here deserve this modernized space because modernization is core to what we do,” Wes Anderson, AT&T’s public sector president, said.
The company signed a “long-term lease” to take over the building last March, according to building manager Stream Realty Partners, in order to consolidate its Virginia offices.
In a press release, the FCEDA noted that AT&T “has deep roots in Virginia.” In addition to installing the first rotary-dial telephones in Norfolk in 1919, the company partnered with FirstNet Authority — an entity established by Congress in the wake of the 9/11 attacks — to create a national wireless communications network for first responders.
“Fairfax County was among the first local governments in the nation to adopt FirstNet, and we continue to collaborate with AT&T to test new technologies that serve our residents and customers alike,” Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Jeff McKay said.
Earlier this year, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a plan to allow mixed-use development on the company’s 33-acre Oakton Oakton office campus. A rezoning application for the project is currently under review by county staff.
