An Ashburn man who taught at a private school in the Herndon area has been arrested for child solicitation, among other charges, after allegedly interacting online with detectives he believed were minors.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, David Mark Sabin, 38, contacted an undercover detective who was posing as a 14-year-old online in July.

“During their online conversations, Sabin initiated inappropriate conversations and planned to travel to Fairfax County to engage in unlawful sexual acts with the minor,” the FCPD said today (Friday) in a press release.

An investigation revealed that Sabin had previously engaged with a detective posing as a minor during another sting operation in October 2024, the police department says.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives with the FCPD’s Major Crimes Bureau Child Exploitation Unit arrested Sabin at his home in Ashburn on Monday (Aug. 11) with the assistance of the Virginia State Police and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Sabin has been charged with four counts of soliciting a minor, two counts of producing child sexual abuse material, attempted aggravated sexual battery, attempted object sexual penetration of a victim under 13, attempted sodomy, and attempted indecent liberties with a child under 15, according to court records.

Court records list the date of the offense for all charges as Oct. 27, 2024. An FCPD spokesperson says that’s because they all “stem from on going communication beginning in October 2024.”

At the time of the investigation, Sabin was working as a teacher at Oak Hill Christian School, a private, faith-based school in McNair just south of the Dulles Toll Road.

“His employment has since been terminated,” the FCPD said.

Sabin is currently in custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center after a bond hearing on Wednesday (Aug. 13). A preliminary hearing in the case before the Fairfax County General District Court is scheduled for Nov. 12 at 2 p.m.

The FCPD says detectives are looking to hear from anyone who thinks they or their children might’ve had “inappropriate contact with Sabin.”

“Anyone with information about this case, or others possibly related, is asked to contact our Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option ‘4,’” the department said.
