The VA250 Mobile Museum, a hands-on museum on wheels, is heading to southeastern Fairfax County for Labor Day weekend.
The museum is an interactive exhibit that highlights Virginia history as part of the country’s 250th anniversary. It will stop by Gunston Hall (10709 Gunston Road) in Lorton from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Sunday, Aug. 31 through Tuesday, Sept. 2, according to Visit Fairfax, a nonprofit organization that promotes Fairfax County as a tourism destination.
“It is an interactive, immersive, hands-on museum on wheels that tells the key stories of Virginia’s rich history and highlights every region of the State,” Visit Fairfax said in the event posting. “George Mason has significant place in the mobile museum reflecting his importance to the history of the Commonwealth and the formation of the new American Government.”
Admission to the mobile museum is free, and visitors can get a 20% discount to Gunston Hall, according to Visit Fairfax.
The entry fee for the former home of George Mason is typically $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for children ages 6-18. Children under 6 get in free.
The VA250 Mobile Museum visited Vienna earlier this year, but there are no future Fairfax stops in the museum’s current calendar.
As part of Virginia’s ongoing 250th-anniversary festivities, next month, Gunston Hall will also have a Cocktails by Candlelight event on Friday, Sept. 19, from 6-9 p.m. with a sampling of colonial-era cocktails and historic foods.
This story initially stated that the mobile museum has an admission fee. It has been corrected to show that the mobile museum is free for all and comes with a discount for Gunston Hall.
