Fairfax County police have arrested a man who was involved in a barricade situation in Bailey’s Crossroads over the weekend.
Asenai Zigita was taken into custody this afternoon (Thursday) near the Barcroft View Apartments by over a dozen officers with the Fairfax County Police Department’s Fugitive Tracking and Apprehension Unit, who gathered outside the Bailey’s Crossroads fire station after making the arrest.
According to the FCPD, Zigita was wanted on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, eluding law enforcement and driving on a suspended license.
Police began investigating him after receiving reports on Saturday (Aug. 23) of “a man in a red Honda sedan following people” in the area around Munson Hill Road in Seven Corners shortly before 4:30 p.m.
“The man later contacted our dispatch center and made statements that raised concerns about his mental state,” the FCPD told FFXnow. “Officers located the man in his vehicle, but he fled the area.”
Community members later reported seeing the man enter a home on Steppes Court in Bailey’s Crossroads. Upon learning that the man may have a gun, the FCPD initiated a barricade.
“The home was later secured and searched by officers,” police said.
The FCPD began publicizing the incident yesterday (Wednesday), stating that Zigita was wanted in connection with the disorderly conduct call and “considered to be armed and dangerous.”
The department shared in an update around 1:30 p.m. that he had been taken into custody.
