A deputy with the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office was charged last week with assaulting a family member at the Camden Fairfax Corner Apartments in Fair Oaks.

Fairfax County police officers responded at 4:43 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 29) to what was initially described as a report of a woman brandishing a weapon in the 4200 block of Summit Corner Drive, according to the police scanner.

“Caller’s advising his girlfriend pulled a gun on him and threatened to kill him and kill herself,” the dispatcher told the responding officers.

However, the Fairfax County Police Department doesn’t mention any weapons in its news release on the incident, stating only that “the victim reported being assaulted during an argument.” A gun was present at the scene, but it wasn’t used, FFXnow has been told.

The woman — identified by police as Katherine Lepkowski, 36 — was taken into custody around 4:51 p.m. after officers found her in a car nearby, per the scanner.

Both Lepkowski and the victim appear to be employed by the sheriff’s office. According to the scanner, the man identified himself as “an active-duty deputy sheriff” and was wearing his uniform when he met with the police officers.

Lepkowski has been charged with assault on a family member, but she was released from custody “on a summons-releasable warrant,” the FCPD said.

Lepkowski has been placed on administrative leave following her arrest on Friday, the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office says.
