A 30-year-old man accused of brandishing a firearm in a Groveton store earlier this month has been arrested.
The Fairfax County Police Department took the suspect, an Alexandria resident, into custody shortly after the Sept. 12 incident, the department said Wednesday.
The alleged brandishing occurred inside a store in the 6300 block of Richmond Highway, though which store is explicitly unknown. There are multiple businesses in the area, including a 7-Eleven convenience store and multiple restaurants.
According to police, the suspect “brandished a firearm while inside the store then fled the scene.” No other information on the incident is known publicly at this time.
The suspect has been charged with one count each of brandishing a firearm and felon in possession of a firearm. He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison, if convicted.
According to online court records, this month’s incident is not the suspect’s first brush with the law.
In 2019, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of simple battery, which had been amended down from felony malicious wounding.
The suspect has previously been charged with nearly two dozen crimes in all, including possession of drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.
For the two new charges, the suspect is scheduled to appear in Fairfax General District Court for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 16.
