A resident of the Vienna Park Apartments was arrested last week after allegedly pursuing his roommate while holding a machete.
Officers were called to the 100 block of Patrick Street SE at 8:16 p.m. on last Monday (Sept. 22) for a “report of a man chasing his roommate with a machete,” the Town of Vienna Police Department said in its most recent weekly crime round-up.
When police arrived at the scene, they found the alleged machete wielder sitting on the Patrick Street curb.
“The roommate advised that after an argument, the man pushed him, then retrieved a machete and began following him as he ran from the apartment,” the VPD said in its report, which covers the week of Sept. 19-25. “The man used the machete to damage the railing and frame around a door in the apartment.”
Determined to be under the influence of alcohol, the 60-year-old man was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with being drunk in public, assault, brandishing a machete and property destruction, according to the police.
Cyberbullying reported, stolen vehicle recovered
The VPD also recently responded to a home on Cottage Street SW when a resident reported “receiving multiple threats and harassment” between Sept. 15 and 23 after posting a video on social media.
“The individuals also began harassing her former places of employment,” police said.
Other notable incidents from the week include an officer’s recovery of a vehicle reported stolen in Pennsylvania in the Wawa parking lot at 465 Maple Avenue West.
According to police, the officer received an alert for the vehicle around 7 a.m. on Sept. 19 and saw a man walk out of the convenience store with the vehicle’s keys in hand.
“Once the vehicle was confirmed to be stolen, Ofc. Temple arrested the 37-year-old man whose address was unknown,” the VPD said. “The officers found that he also had a stolen firearm in his possession.”
The man was charged with having a stolen vehicle, multiple firearm possession offenses and providing false information to a law enforcement officer. He’s being held at the Fairfax County jail without bond.
The VPD also took a report for property destruction from a Glyndon Street resident who said that “someone removed all her lawn lanterns from their posts and damaged them” sometime overnight between Sept. 23 and 24.
