Herndon residents will have another option for grocery shopping later this fall.
Budget supermarket chain Lidl is planning to open its latest Fairfax County location at 2110 Centreville Road on Oct. 29, a spokesperson confirmed.
The store will occupy around 28,988 square feet in a redeveloped building that had been filled since 1999 by Kohl’s. The department store closed its longstanding location there in January.
At the property, Lidl will be joined by arts and crafts retailer Hobby Lobby, which is expected to occupy more than 54,000 square feet of the building. Signage has also been installed for a new Planet Fitness, which will fill less than 18,000 square feet.
The Herndon location will be Lidl’s 11th store in the Fairfax area — just shy of the 12 offered by Aldi, a rival German grocer with a similar low-price model.
“At Lidl US, shoppers experience a curated collection of private label picks, global imports, and everyday name brands,” a press release said. “From imported cheeses to fresh meats and seafood, you’ll get to experience the quality we’re famous for in Europe — without using your passport.”
Following the store’s grand opening, which will kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:40 a.m., it will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Like at Lidl’s other locations, the Herndon store will offer weekly discounts that start every Wednesday as well as “weekend super sale” deals on six different items that are only available Friday through Sunday.
