A 27-year-old man appears to have fatally overdosed on Sunday (Oct. 26) in Bailey’s Crossroads, shortly after allegedly injuring another man.
Officers initially responded to the 5900 block of Seminary Road around 2:45 p.m. for a report of a malicious wounding. Upon arriving, they found both the injured man and the 27-year-old man, who was believed to be “the suspect involved in the malicious wounding,” the Fairfax County Police Department said.
The officers put handcuffs on the 27-year-old man before noticing that he was “exhibiting signs of possible narcotics use and foaming at the mouth,” police said.
According to the FCPD, the officers then disbursed an initial dose of Narcan before requesting assistance from the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.
“The man, who was initially conscious and responsive upon [the fire department’s] arrival, became unresponsive shortly thereafter,” police said.
The man was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The man injured in the malicious wounding incident appears to have been hit in the head with a stick, resulting in a laceration, an FCPD spokesperson says. He was taken to a hospital with the non-life-threatening injury.
According to the Virginia Code, malicious wounding refers to an incident in which bodily injury is inflicted with the “intent to maim, disfigure, disable or kill.” The law notes that the injury could involve shooting, stabbing, cuts or other wounds.
The FCPD didn’t identify either of the men, but an investigation is underway. The department is encouraging anyone with relevant information to contact its Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 2.
