A 50-year-old man from Kingstowne suspected in a 2023 fatal hit and run in Prince William County has turned himself into law enforcement, according to Virginia State Police.

James A. Puryear was charged with involuntary manslaughter, possession with the intent to manufacture or sell a Schedule I/II substance, and felony hit and run resulting in injury or death for the crash on Nov. 19, 2023.

The victim, Trenton Schnakenberg, 31, was killed after a driver crashed into his tractor trailer on southbound I-95 at the 158-mile marker in Prince William County. He died at the scene, according to the VSP.

“The crash occurred at 5:05 a.m. on Nov. 19, 2023, when a 2005 Infiniti G35 sideswiped a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia tractor trailer,” the VSP said in a release. “The tractor trailer then went off of the left side of the interstate and struck a guardrail and a support column. The driver of the Infiniti then fled the scene.”

Puryear surrendered to law enforcement at the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center this morning (Thursday), state police said.

He has a preliminary court hearing scheduled for Monday, Nov. 3.
