Police: Man dies after being struck by train in Burke

One man was killed this morning (Friday) after being struck by a train in Burke.

Shortly after 9 a.m., the Fairfax County Police Department responded to the 10400 block of Premier Court — near Burke Centre station — after the collision was reported.

The conductor of the train told responding officers that the man was struck within a mile of the station, according to scanner traffic.

The unidentified man was located on the tracks and later pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not yet shared any details about who the man is, and whether he was an employee or a pedestrian.

No injuries were reported on the train, according to scanner traffic.

Burke Centre station services local trains on the the Virginia Railway Express’ Manassas Line, as well as Amtrak’s Northeast Regional route. Online schedules show that the last VRE train would have passed through at approximately 8:30 a.m., but a VRE spokesperson says the train in the crash was an Amtrak Northeast Regional.

A request for comment sent to Amtrak wasn’t immediately returned.

Train services were delayed following the incident, with a Northeast Regional train traveling north toward the station delayed by approximately 20 minutes, according to train tracker RailRat.

A Clifton resident tells FFXnow a train had to stop near his house as a result of the fatal crash, leading passengers to deboard and find car rides to their destinations.
