More than four years after the body of Maryland resident Tafari “Trey” Nadhim was found in Hybla Valley, Fairfax County police are still searching for those responsible for his death.
Nadhim is believed to have been shot and killed in the early morning hours on July 5, 2021 — hours after attending an Independence Day block party. His body was located three days after his death in the 7800 block of Janna Lee Avenue.
Police believe that a verbal dispute “escalated into a shooting,” leading to Nadhim’s killing. A suspect has yet to be identified.
The FCPD is currently looking to identify a group of individuals captured by a surveillance camera near where Nadhim’s body was located, with one seen carrying a firearm.
The man carrying the firearm can be seen in the footage being followed closely by four others — presumptively three men and one woman, police said.
Police believe that the same woman in that footage is found in a video taken off of Nadhim’s phone, apparently from the night of July 4.
The unknown subjects are believed to have information related to Nadhim’s death.
The surveillance footage was first released in September 2021, but the department is recirculating it in the hopes that someone might recognize the people involved.
“Detectives are asking anyone who attended the block party, recognizes the individuals in the video, or has information about the incident to come forward and help provide closure in this case,” the FCPD said.
Anybody with information is encouraged to contact the FCPD’s Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 2, or submit an anonymous tip through Crimesolvers.
