Fairfax County police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash on Richmond Highway.
Officers and medics were dispatched to the intersection of Richmond Highway and Fairfax County Parkway in Fort Belvoir at 9:51 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 7) for a crash involving a struck pedestrian, according to scanner traffic.
The dispatcher warned responders that the pedestrian was “still in the roadway.” A firefighter described the location as the southbound side of Richmond Highway.
The pedestrian — identified by police on Monday (Dec. 8) as 67-year-old Roger Brown of Fort Belvoir — was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, a 2008 Honda Accord, survived without injuries and remained at the scene, police said.
Southbound Richmond Highway was temporarily closed at the Backlick Road intersection as Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives investigated.
“Please use an alternate route,” the Fairfax County Police Department said in a social media post at 10:20 p.m.

Based on a preliminary investigation, detectives believe Brown was crossing Richmond Highway when the southbound driver struck him near Backlick Road.
“Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash,” the FCPD said in an update on Monday. “The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated.”
