UPDATED: FCPD investigating after body found in Seven Corners lake

Local police are investigating after a body was located this morning (Thursday) in a Seven Corners lake.

Fairfax County police responded to the 3300 block of Lakeside View Drive in the Water’s Edge neighborhood around 8:07 a.m. after community members reported seeing the body of an adult man floating in the lake.

The body was discovered by a neighbor who was walking on the paths around the lake. The body is about 15 to 20 feet away from shore, partially submerged with the man facing down, making any identification “very difficult at this time,” according to Fairfax County Police Department Capt. Jesse Katzman, who serves as commander of the public affairs bureau.

“We have no evidence to indicate that there’s anything other than a death investigation at this point,” Katzman said in an initial briefing around 10:15 a.m. “We have no missing people in this area that are unrecovered or anything like that, so over the next few hours, it’s going to take a little bit to determine exactly what we have, but right now, there’s no foul play suspected or no evidence to support that.”

Major Crimes Bureau detectives are currently at the scene, along with underwater search and recovery and marine patrol units that are working to recover the body and any other evidence.

According to Katzman, divers “will have to be in the water for a while,” and an inflatable raft will be used so they can safely recover the body. The process may take a while, as the divers need to perform safety checks before getting into the water on a frigid day.

“If you or anybody you know has any information, you can always call our Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800 or Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS to give any of that information,” Katzman said. “We’re always asking the community for help or if anybody might know anything or anybody who could be out here, please let us know. We really appreciate it.”
