Special election gives Republican new shot at David Bulova’s delegate seat

A familiar Republican face is seeking the 11th District seat in Virginia’s House of Delegates.

The GOP has named Adam Wise, a firearms instructor and self-defense teacher, as its nominee for next month’s special election — only two months after he was defeated by incumbent Democrat David Bulova in the November general election.

But with Bulova departing from the General Assembly for a position in Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger’s administration, Wise will now face off against Gretchen Bulova, a historian and the wife of the former delegate, in a special election on Jan. 13.

A resident of the Fairfax area near George Mason University, Wise is reviving the same platform he did during his last campaign, with a central focus on finances.

Visitors to Wise’s website are first greeted by his campaign slogan: “It’s your money! Keep as much of it as possible!” Much of his perspective on government spending, he says, stems from his disdain of bailouts initiated under President George W. Bush.

“We aren’t money banks for the politicians to stick their hands into and grab as much as they can,” his website reasds.

Wise has also expressed opposition to universal healthcare, calling the idea “socialist.” Not much else about his political positions is listed on his website.

“The November election was a wave for the Democrats, but now he’s got a second chance,” Wise’s website reads. “In this special election, voters have a second chance to send Adam to Richmond, to represent them, and these ideas, in 2026!”
