A store selling increasingly-popular cardboard collectibles plans to open in Herndon early next year.
Scheduled for a grand opening on Saturday, Jan. 3, Goatz Sports Cards replaced a former chiropractor’s office in the strip of businesses at 208 Elden Street.
To commemorate the new shop, a grand opening event will be held starting at 11 a.m. Giveaways and raffles will be held, plus light refreshments and other kids activities will be available.

Long considered a child’s game, the popularity of sports cards and trading cards — such as Pokemon — has grown rapidly since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Capitalizing on that popularity, owner Bryan Janick opted to open his store in hopes of creating a local hub for collectors both young and old.
“We wanted to create more than just a card shop,” Janick said. “Our goal is to build a place where kids, families, and collectors can come together, learn about the hobby and enjoy the excitement of collecting.”
Goatz plans to offer a broad selection of packs and boxes — commonly referred to as wax — as well as single and other supplies.
Once open, the store will carry different hours each day, though it will be open six days a week.
