With its first exhibit of the new year, Reston Art Gallery and Studios is turning its attention to a subject close to home: Lake Anne Plaza.

The gallery at 11400 Washington Plaza West, Suite B, will unveil the new exhibition “Art of Lake Anne” tomorrow (Thursday), showcasing interpretations of Reston’s original village center from nine different local artists.

More on the exhibit and artists from a press release:

Lake Anne Plaza is known for its Mid-Century Modern Brutalist architecture—gray concrete forms that emphasize light and shadow— but the artists of RAGS view the landscape through different eyes and across different media.

Fiber artist Cindy Grisdela presents quilted sailboat imagery, while painter Rosemarie Forsythe captures colorful paddleboats and canoes in vibrant hues. Lakeworks, found-object sculptures by Doug Fuller, interpret the landscape using pale blue tones and crushed silver. Additional works by Sandy Dovberg, Jennifer Duncan, Julia Malakoff, Wayne Schiffelbein, and Pat Macintyre further expand the range of views in this collaborative exhibition.

A reception to celebrate the exhibit’s opening will be held on Sunday (Jan. 11) from 2-4 p.m.

Expected to remain on display through Feb. 5, Art of Lake Anne can be viewed for free when Reston Art Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Appointments are also available.

Founded in December 1986 by owner, director and artist Patricia Macintyre, Reston Art Gallery and Studios hosts eight resident artists who create, exhibit and sell their work out of its home at Lake Anne Plaza. While the gallery primarily showcases its members’ work, they can also invite guests to be included in one or two events each year.
