A national staffing agency has set up shop in the Tysons area, where it will help connect job seekers with employers.

AtWork announced on Jan. 6 that it has opened an office at 2106-F Gallows Road in Dunn Loring’s South Tysons Office Park, just outside Tysons proper.

“Our team will help people in Tysons and nearby areas, including Reston, Great Falls, Wolf Trap, McLean and Vienna, find meaningful roles in light-industrial and professional fields while connecting businesses with the reliable talent they need to grow,” AtWork Tysons owner Dan Garvey said in a press release. “Helping candidates build better futures and helping companies thrive is the impact I want to make in this community.”

Based in Knoxville, Tennessee, AtWork has more than 100 locations across the U.S., but this appears to be its first in Northern Virginia and the D.C. area.

According to its website, the company was founded in 1986 by current CEO John Hall, who focused initially on expanding it within East Tennessee before introducing the first franchise location in Decatur, Alabama, in 1992.

AtWork says it helps over 40,000 people find employment every year, offering both temporary and permanent placements as well as executive search services for businesses looking to fill leadership roles. It specializes in light industrial and office or clerical jobs.

As the Tysons franchise owner, Garvey says he understands “firsthand how difficult it can be to find the right career path.” After earning a Coast Guard license from the State University of New York’s Maritime College, he served as an officer on military vessels and worked as a private contractor for the U.S. Navy before transitioning to medical device sales.

“We’re proud to bring AtWork to Tysons and create a place where job seekers can find opportunity and businesses can identify the right talent,” AtWork President and Chief Operating Officer Jason Leverant said. “Dan’s leadership and commitment to his community make him the ideal partner to carry this mission forward.”

AtWork’s expansion into the Tysons area comes at a precarious time for the D.C. region’s job market, which has been hit harder than other parts of the country by the Trump administration’s cuts to the federal government workforce.

The region shed more than 72,000 federal jobs in 2025 based on employment data released last week by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Virginia’s unemployment rate rose to 3.5% in November, up from 2.9% a year earlier.

While outgoing Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s administration has championed a shift to a “robust and growing private sector,” private employers in the D.C. area, including contractors based in Fairfax County, reported 13,260 layoffs through December — the most of any year since the pandemic shutdowns, though it remains well below the over 37,800 cuts seen in 2020, the Washington Post reported.
