Two juveniles have been arrested in connection to the shooting of a man in Springfield earlier this afternoon (Friday).

The two suspects were taken into custody less than a mile away from the 7600 block of Cork Glen Way, where the shooting was reported, just after 2 p.m.

Responding officers located an adult man with a gunshot wound to the head, according to scanner traffic. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

According to Fairfax County Police Department Capt. Jesse Katzman, investigators believe that the suspects may have attempted to burglarize the victim’s home before the shooting took place.

The victim and the two detainees are known to each other, Katzman said in a press briefing, but it is unclear what the circumstances are that led to the shooting.

It is unclear if there are any other suspects. Officers had been canvassing the nearby wooded area with a gun-sniffing dog after the two were detained, according to scanner traffic.

“We’re not sure what we’re looking for yet until we get camera footage [from the community],” Katzman said. “We may have reason to believe there are others involved, but we’re not sure to the extent of their involvement.”

John R. Lewis High School, located roughly four miles away from the crime scene, temporarily directed students and staff to “shelter in place” in response to the shooting. Preliminary reports suggested that those involved had a connection to the high school, but that is not yet confirmed, Katzman said.
