Sky Zone, an indoor trampoline park, will soon bounce into the remaining space left by Sears at Fair Oaks Mall.
The indoor trampoline park chain confirmed to FFXnow that it is targeting a late 2026 or early 2027 opening at 1750 Fair Oaks Mall #1230. Sky Zone has four other Northern Virginia locations, including one in Springfield and one that just opened on Feb. 9 at Dulles Town Center in Sterling.
Fairfax County records show Sky Zone is in the midst of the permitting process at Fair Oaks Mall.
Sky Zone locations boast numerous attractions centered around its trampolines, such as a “SkySlam” to dunk basketballs, foam pits, slides, obstacle course, zip lines and other play equipment. The parks offer single-day tickets, memberships and private events like birthday parties.
“This addition will bring the fun even closer to the Fairfax community, offering families a place to jump, play, and create lasting memories together,” a Sky Zone spokesperson told FFXnow.
Sears had downsized to one floor less than a year before closing its Fair Oaks Mall location in November 2018. The lower level of the former Sears location at 12000 Fair Oaks Mall is now occupied by Dick’s Sporting Goods and Golf Galaxy, while Dave & Buster’s and Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar filled part of the upper level.
According to county library records, Sears was one of Fair Oaks Mall’s original anchor stores along with Hecht’s, JC Penney and Woodward & Lothrop. JC Penney remains the only original anchor store and will be the retailer’s only Fairfax County location after the Springfield store closes in May.
JC Penney downsized its space at Fair Oaks Mall in 2024. Movement, an indoor climbing, fitness and yoga studio, announced in 2023 that it would bring a location there but has pushed back the opening over the past few years. The gym’s latest targeted opening date is sometime in 2026.
The Washington Business Journal reported last year that the grocery store Fresh World appears to be circling the former Lord & Taylor’s space, which has been vacant since 2020.
The location of the upcoming Movement gym has been corrected after this story initially said it would be in the former Lord & Taylor’s store.
