A regional grocery store specializing in organic goods is planning a new supermarket in Springfield.
Mom’s Organic Market is preparing to open a new, 12,000-square-foot grocery store in the Loisdale Center, CEO Scott Nash told FFXnow. The grocer is expected to open at 6640 Loisdale Road in a space left vacant by Party City after the company went out of business in 2024.
The Rockville, Maryland-based chain is targeting a late 2026 opening for the new store, Nash said in an email.
A permit application currently under review by Fairfax County staff for the address calls for interior alterations, “new rear exterior concrete pad installations, new structural support for [a] rooftop unit, [and] new roof reinforcement.”
Mom’s Organic Market selected Springfield in part because of its central location near I-95 and the Capital Beltway, Nash said.
“Springfield already offers a lot of good retail options — and is a destination for shoppers, given its proximity to the major highways — so it’s the type of shopping district that we really like,” Nash said. “The surrounding areas are quite densely populated as well and we’ve identified the demographics as being in line with the typical MOM’s shopper-informed and passionate about great, healthy groceries.”
Mom’s Organic Market places an emphasis on certified organic goods as well as environmental stewardship. The brand banned bottled still water in 2010, has not used plastic bags since 2005 and prides itself on providing free electric vehicle charging stations “at almost every location.”
At Loisdale Center, the forthcoming grocer will join a mix of retail that includes a Barnes & Noble, Designer Shoe Warehouse and Marshall’s.
The new store joins nearly 20 D.C.-area Mom’s locations, including nearby Merrifield, Woodbridge, Alexandria and Arlington. The chain has also expanded to Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts since its founding in 1987.
