Reston Association’s summer pool season kicks off May 9 with limited service, transitioning to all pools opening starting in mid-June.
“Summer will be here before we know it — from lap swimming and open swim to lessons and water fitness classes, RA pools remain one of the community’s most popular amenities,” the association said in announcing its 2026 summer schedule.
“With 15 community pools across Reston, RA continues its commitment to providing safe, clean, friendly and fun swimming opportunities for all ages,” the organization said.
Approximately 60,000 Reston residents will have access to the pools this summer. Recreation passes are free to RA members as part of their $890 annual household dues. All-access recreation passes for non-members — which include pools, tennis and pickleball courts — are $656 for individuals, $890 for households.
Single-access pool passes for visitors also are available.
The newly released 2026 pool schedule outlines opening dates, seasonal transitions and operating hours for each pool, as well as a schedule exceptions calendar for holidays and special events.
“Pools will open in phases as weather and staffing allow, with schedules expanding during peak summer months and adjusting later in the season. Individual pool schedules can also be found online,” RA officials said, adding:
“RA’s aquatics team, including certified lifeguards and instructors, works throughout the season to ensure a welcoming and secure environment for all looking to enjoy our pools. In addition to recreational swimming, pools host lessons, camps, classes and special activities designed to keep the community active and connected.”
All 15 pools will be operational during the prime summer months (mid-June to Aug. 21). During transition periods before and after peak summertime use, a more limited number of pools will be open.
Reston Association divides the summer season into five periods:
- Season 1: May 9-22
- North Shore and Ridge Heights heated pools
- Season 2: May 23-June 19
- Dogwood, Glade, Golf Course, Lake Newport, Lake Thoreau, North Hills and Shadowood pools added
- Season 3: June 20-Aug. 21
- All 15 pools available
- Season 4: Aug. 22-Sept. 7
- Dogwood, Lake Newport, Lake Thoreau, North Hills, North Shore, Ridge Heights, Shadowood and Tall Oaks
- Season 5: Sept. 8-30
- Lake Newport (for fitness swims only), North Shore and Ridge Heights pools
Operating hours vary between sites and can be found on RA’s website. Residents can sign up to receive text or email alerts for unexpected schedule changes at individual pools or across the entire network.
