A motorcyclist died yesterday (Wednesday) after colliding with a pickup truck on the Capital Beltway (I-495).

Around 3:54 p.m., Virginia State Police troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on the highway just west of Exit 176 to Telegraph Road in the Rose Hill area, according to a press release.

“Upon arrival, troopers located the motorcyclist lying in the roadway, with bystanders attempting to render aid,” the VSP said. “Due to the severity of the injuries, the motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

The crash occurred in the eastbound lanes of I-495. The motorcyclist, who has not been identified yet, was riding a 2005 Suzuki.

As of last night, state police were still working to notify the motorcyclist’s next of kin.

“This crash remains under investigation,” state police said.

Based on state data, this appears to be the first fatal motorcycle crash to occur in Fairfax County this year. The county saw five fatal crashes involving motorcycles last year and 11 in 2024 — the only year with double-digit fatalities since the start of the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles’ Traffic Records Electronic Data System (TREDS) in 2010.
