With the calendar turning to May, farmers’ market season is blooming across Fairfax County.
The Vienna Farmers Market, organized by the nonprofit Optimist Club of Greater Vienna, will open for 2026 tomorrow (Saturday) in the Vienna Community Center parking lot at 120 Cherry Street SE.
With an official ribbon-cutting set for 10 a.m., the market’s launch will coincide with the Town of Vienna’s spring native plant sale, which will unfold simultaneously from 8 a.m. to noon next to the community center parking lot near Waters Field.
More from Vienna on the plant sale, which is sponsored by the town’s Conservation and Sustainability Commission:
The sale will feature seasonal plants native to the region that are raised and sold by Hill House Garden Nursery, including flowering perennials, native shrubs, and small trees available for purchase. Attendees can get gardening tips, drop off their used quart and gallon plastic nursery pots to be reused, and enter a free drawing for a rain barrel and a backyard composter.
According to its website, the Vienna Farmers Market is the only one in Fairfax County organized by a nonprofit instead of a local government or for-profit organization. Fees from vendors and other proceeds go to the Optimist Club’s charitable efforts, including scholarships and support for local schools and youth programs.
Run by volunteers and funded by club member dues, the market will bring fruit and vegetable vendors, food stalls and local musicians to the town every Saturday through October from 8 a.m. to noon.
Outside of Vienna, the Fairfax County Park Authority’s farmers markets will expand over the next week after kicking off the season on April 18 in Burke. All locations except for Kingstowne and Wakefield operate from 8 a.m. to noon.
