A former police officer who now works at a private school in Lorton has been charged with child solicitation, the Fairfax County Police Department announced today.

Detectives in the FCPD’s Child Exploitation Unit received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that Lawrence Lofzewski, a 37-year-old Springfield resident, “had posted disturbing online content regarding minors,” according to a press release.

The tip initiated a sting operation.

“During the investigation, Lofzweski communicated with detectives posing online as a minor, engaged in inappropriate conversations, and solicited sexual encounters,” the FCPD said.

According to police, Lofzewski was arrested yesterday (Thursday) at his home in Springfield. Currently in custody without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, he has been charged with three felony counts of soliciting a minor.

Online court records list the date of the alleged offenses as March 1. Lofzewski is scheduled to appear in Fairfax County General District Court for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 3 at 2 p.m.

According to the FCPD, Lofzewski is employed as a mental health associate at Rivermont Schools, a private school in Lorton that serves students with autism and behavioral and emotional support needs. The school didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

Prior to his hiring at Rivermont Schools, he worked as a police officer in D.C. for the Metropolitan Police Department from 2019 to 2022 and for the Arlington County Police Department from 2022 to 2025, the FCPD said.
