IKEA will open its new Chantilly store at the site of the former Dulles Expo Center on June 18, the company announced yesterday.

The 107,000 square-foot space at 4320 Chantilly Shopping Center Drive is the Swedish furniture company’s first full-sized store in Fairfax County and its third in Virginia.

A smaller “plan-and-order” store where customers can design products and arrange for delivery opened at Fairfax Corner in December 2023, and IKEA has had a presence in Woodbridge since 1985, first in and then near Potomac Mills Mall.

“We’re so proud to be celebrating 40 years in the greater Washington region, and opening IKEA Chantilly is just another meaningful step in our journey to be more accessible to the many people,” IKEA U.S. interim CEO Rob Olson said in a press release. “This store makes it easier for more people to access affordable home furnishings whether they’re planning their dream space or stopping in for items they can take home the same day.”

A grand opening will be held on opening day with giveaways, coffee and cinnamon buns. The store will open to customers at 9:35 a.m. after the ribbon cutting and opening remarks.

The new store will display more than 7,700 products, including furniture, sofas, beds, and other home furnishings, with over 4,400 available for customers to immediately take home. It will also include an “as-is” department with gently used products and discontinued items, the company said.

Food such as meatballs, plant balls, and hot dogs will be available for purchase as well.

“IKEA Chantilly was designed with everyday needs in mind — making it easier for customers to shop, plan and bring items home the same day,” Scott Reid, market manager for IKEA Woodbridge, said in the release. “As IKEA continues to grow across the U.S., we’re excited to welcome customers into a store that reflects how they live today and to be an active, supportive part of the local community.”

While rumors of the new IKEA surfaced last summer, news of the expo center’s closure still came a surprise to some event organizers that regularly rented the space. Some, like the DMV Chocolate & Coffee Festival, have announced moves to Sterling’s upcoming DTC Expo, while others have gone to Manassas Mall, or not announced a date for 2026.
