Fairfax County police are searching for a man who allegedly robbed and threatened a driver in the Herndon area over the weekend.
Officers responded to the reported robbery at the Parcher Avenue and Springer Drive intersection in Hutchison, just west of the Town of Herndon, at 2:44 p.m. on Saturday (June 20), according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
A woman was driving alone when she was approached by a man at the intersection, police say.
According to the FCPD:
The suspect yelled at her, prompting her to pull over and roll her window down. After a brief conversation, the suspect demanded money and threatened to harm her family. He then reached into the driver’s side window and forcibly took money from the victim’s hand. The suspect fled before police arrival. The victim was not injured, and she did not know the suspect.
With the man still not located, the police department is now asking the public for help identifying him. The FCPD released a composite sketch today (Wednesday) that matches the victim’s description of the suspect as a Black man with “long dreads.”
“Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call our Reston Police Station at 703-478-0904 and ask to speak with a detective,” the FCPD said.
The department also accepts anonymous tips online or by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS through its Crime Solvers program, which offers cash rewards for information that leads to an arrest, case closure or recovery of stolen property.
