An Arlington man has been charged in connection with the death of a pedestrian in Seven Corners last month, Fairfax County police said today (June 30).

Hein Quang Le, 63, of Arlington was charged on Sunday (June 28) with felony hit-and-run in connection with the death of Falls Church resident Jose Jimenez at Patrick Henry Drive and Route 50 (Arlington Blvd).

Police previously said Jimenez, 60, was walking in a crosswalk, but against the signal, in the early morning hours of May 26 when he was struck by a light-colored sedan heading east on Route 50.

Officers responded around 1:22 a.m. to a report of a pedestrian lying in the roadway after being struck by a vehicle, FFXnow previously reported.

“The striking vehicle, later determined to be a 2004 silver Honda Civic, left the scene prior to police arrival,” the Fairfax County Police Department said in a press release. “Jimenez was transported to a local hospital by Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department personnel where he was pronounced deceased.”

Le turned himself in on Sunday and was interviewed by detectives at the Mason District station before being transported to the county’s Adult Detention Center, where he was held without bond.

According to court records, he is scheduled to appear in Fairfax County General District Court for a preliminary hearing on Sept. 1.

Le is the second driver within the past week to be charged with a felony hit-and-run involving the death of a pedestrian. Last week, the FCPD charged a 20-year-old woman who they say was using her cell phone when she hit a pedestrian on the Fairfax County Parkway last December.

Earlier this month, the pedestrian death toll soared to double digits within the span of two days after four fatal crashes, and a fifth involving a motorcyclist. Police subsequently issued a plea for drivers and pedestrians to pay attention and follow the rules of the road.

The third phase of an annual “Road Shark” traffic safety campaign is also slated for August, following a week in June in which officers issued 11,791 citations and warnings.
